Wedding, Pinning & Picnic

This is a post to catch you up on all of the latest goings-on in the Regan family over the past two weeks. Last Saturday, August 9th, my little Japanese church had a nice picnic. One of our highlights was chatting with a family who adopted their daughter from China. After that we had to drive over to Greeley for our niece's pinning ceremony. Linnea had just completed her nursing school training at UNC (Univ. of Northern Colorado). So, there was a special ceremony to honor the 36 women who had completed the program. It's a very competitive program to get into as 150 people all try to make it for the 36 available slots. Of course, those with the best grades are chosen. And somehow our smart niece managed to keep her 4.0 record all 4 years of college. The following Saturday (yesterday) we attended her wedding. Linnea had signed up for the Air Force ROTC and her future husband had signed up for the Navy ROTC and then they met online. Fortunately, they'll be able to work at bases that are nearby to each other in Norfolk, VA. The unusual thing about her wedding day is that it poured and poured all that day. In fact, the rain started, along with hail in the beginning, on Thursday and didn't end until late Saturday afternoon. You have to understand that Colorado is typically hot and dry. This is very unusual weather. In fact, we went from air conditioning to using the furnace in the span of a couple days. The rain stopped just as the reception was starting. And then the power went out over all of West Campus (where the reception was being held). They expected it be out all through the night. I have to say that that is the first reception I've ever been at where the power was out. They finally got a generator for the kitchen so they could open the fridges and bring the food out. And in the end they found another generator so that the D.J. could play the music for the dance. They were fortunate they had an indoors wedding and the reception hall had a huge set of panorama windows. Wish Penny could have been here to experience an American wedding. We didn't know if we'd be able to attend or if we would be in Thailand. But, that's another story waiting to be written.
