I've gotten a little behind in blogging these days. Life just seems to go by so quickly! It's hard to believe that we're in the last week of our Spring semester for homeschooling. In our Regan family Happy Homeschool, we plan to keep going, although at an easier pace, for learning in the summertime. I want Penny to have every opportunity to grow in her learning. She is doing well and making great progress. As her mom AND her teacher, she is making me very proud! The big event of the Spring was her musical, "Esther", that she participated in. This year she had no speaking parts. But, she did a great job of dramatically singing and dancing with the larger group numbers.
I especially enjoyed how she swooned and screamed over King Xerxes and the nighttime scene she was in as a Jewish dancer. It was fun to have both sets of grandparents present, as well as some dear friends and our neighbor lady.
If they put on another musical next year with her Homeschool Etc. group, she definitely would like to participate, again.
We certainly hope that Penny will be able to be a part of Homeschool Etc.,(an enrichment group that meets at our church), in the Fall. But, we are a little uncertain, again, about what the future holds for the Regan family. On April 25th, Jay found out that his school district that he works for is not intending to renew his contract for the Fall. There is still a chance that they will repost his position and he could reapply. But, he has no information, yet. So, meanwhile, he has begun also looking at other job possibilities in the Denver area. We'd like to at be able to stay where we are, since we're just beginning to feel like we're starting to settle into our new home in Arvada. I (Chandra) have applied for a part-time position at our church as a receptionist. So, I'm hoping that it will open up, because it seems like it would be the ideal schedule to work around Penny's homeschooling schedule. She may have some new opportunities in the Fall, to perhaps volunteer at an elementary school that is just a block away from our school. She and I are also planning on volunteering at our church's Kids' Camp in June and this Friday at Jay's school, for Field Day. All kinds of great new opportunities! Just praying that the perfect job opportunity will open up for Jay. Thanks for your prayers!
Living in Denver, we also get to take advantage of all kind of great things like the Free Days they sponsor at several different museums. We took in a free day at the Colorado Railroad Museum.
Also, we took a drive up to Rocky Mountain National Park for the Free Day on Arbor Day, (a.k.a., Earth Day).
We also rode the new Light Rail train for free on the day when they opened the new line that goes between downtown Denver and Golden. We enjoyed learning about Australian animals at the library.
We took a little hike to the nature center at a nearby park.
And we enjoyed dining at the famous Casa Bonita restaurant with Grandpa and Grandma.
We also enjoyed the Lao New Year Festival on May 11th, which is VERY similar to the Thai New Year. In fact, the Lao food is closer to what Penny is used to, since she grew up in Udon Thani, just across the border from Laos.
Nothing like some really spicy papaya salad to cheer up a teenager who has a never-ending appetite!
