Growing Older and Wiser, and other Fatherly Wisdom

I was trying to think of a clever title for my blog entry, as I thought back to our recent events. There was our 10 year anniversary on June 14th. That accounts for the aging. We celebrated by going to the mountains, where we took in a BBQ festival in Frisco and saw moose at Rocky Mountain National Park. As far as the "fatherly" part, we celebrated Father's Day, by meeting up with Jay's parents and Penny in Estes Park. We went hiking near Long's Peak the next day. And on the way home, Penny spotted a moose! As far as the wisdom part goes, Penny is growing older and wiser, in spite of getting all of her wisdom teeth removed on the 19th. In that second picture, I used a jacket and hat to rig up a "harness" to keep her ice pack in place on her cheek. These recent events seem to be bringing us all closer together. Our bonds as husband and wife and with us as mom and dad with Penny seem to be growing deeper. You should have seen Jay carry Penny to get her in the car and in the house, after getting her teeth removed. It's probably been such a special bonding time, because Jay has the summer off. We're hoping that he'll get another job in the Fall. He did have one teaching interview last week for a part-time position in Denver. But, no other calls, and still waiting to hear back on that one. Penny has certainly enjoyed having her daddy around. In fact, yesterday she turned to him and said, "I'm sure glad that you're my daddy." She's been soaking in all of the mothering that she can since getting her wisdom teeth extracted. Yesterday she was tired, because she hadn't slept well. So, her legs were achy and she asked me to massage her legs. After doing so, she said, "You're so sweet! You're my angel!" The other special event we're celebrating today is four years ago today, June 23rd, Penny officially became a Regan at the juvenile court in Denver. She's been through so many changes in these part four years, but we're so blessed that she's continuing to grow and mature and learn to trust us, as her parents, and God as her heavenly Daddy. This coming week we had signed up as volunteers at our church's Kid's Camp (a.k.a., VBS). But, I'm not sure if Penny will be feeling up to it, yet, with her sore mouth.
