Yeah! Today when we got home there was an invitation in our mailbox. It was from the INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service). How kind of them to invite us to go to Denver to get fingerprinted! Did I mention that it cost us almost $700 just to apply for the invitation? We are discovering that nothing is cheap in International Adoption. However, in the end it'll all be worth it. I'm sure that God feels the same way about adopting us. He loves us so much that He was willing to give up his very own son's life in exchange for redeeming us. What a sacrifice! But, what a happy ending that Jesus did not stay dead! He's alive! And we believe that He is still intimately involved in all of the little details of our daily existence.
We're actually amazed at how smoothly things have been going so far with the adoption. We hope and pray that will continue. This invitation from the INS only took a week, when we were told that it would take about three or four weeks. Perhaps things are speeding up since the number of international adoptions, overall, is going down.
We had our first meeting with our social worker who will write up our home study. It went fine. It took almost three hours. We were a bit overwhelmed. And we came to understand that all of the many documents we've been filling out are only for the home study. There will still be several other documents we must obtain and notarize to send in with our dossier. But, that won't happen until we get our home study completed. At that point we will then officially enter into the Thailand program through WACAP (our agency in Seattle) and Penny will be "put on hold" for us. So far, no one else has registered interest in her. This morning I'll go do the first school tour of a local elementary school, which may be a good school for Penny to attend. Oh, my so much to do. But, even if costs a lot of time and money, it'll all be worth it. I'm sure those of you who are already parents can say the same thing.
