The first night we met up with them for dinner at Chili's. The next morning Nathan and Scully came to pick up Chandra and Penny to take us to their Asian market, which we really enjoyed. It was especially fun with smiley Angelina along for the ride.
Then we met up with Jay at their apartment before heading over to Red Robin for lunch.
Next, Nathan took us on a scenic drive around a neighborhood where they'd love to buy a house someday on his way to show us where he works at the University of Utah.
There were some stunning views from the top of the hospital building where he works, although the pictures look a little hazy.
After that we drove down to the Tracy Aviary to view several different species of birds. It's located just south of Liberty Park near the downtown area.
Our trip coincided perfectly with what Penny had just been learning about for her homeschool studies. She had been studying about birds for science and the week we left she was learning about Utah for U.S. Geography. We really enjoyed our time there, although it was VERY HOT! So, we were thankful for cool misters and shade now-and-then.
After a stop for ice cream, to cool down, we drove around Temple Square. It just so happened that when we were there, it happened to be a two-day state holiday, called Pioneer Days. It is to commemorate the day when Bringham Young came over the mountains to the valley of Salt Lake and said, "This is it!" meaning they had found their "promised land". This trip to Salt Lake City ended up being educational for Penny in the area of comparative religions. While we have many dear friends who happen to be Mormon and they claim to be "Christian, we can't help but kindly disagree. There are too many differences in beliefs and doctrines and I want Penny to be informed about the truth. So, after viewing Temple Square, we later watched some you tube videos discussing what the Mormon doctrines teach and compared it to what the Bible says. For dinner that night we ended up eating at a Japanese restaurant, which was very fun for me (Chandra), since I could speak in Japanese again. If fact, the waitress was so happy to speak in Japanese that she would forget and try to speak to the others in Japanese, especially Scully, since she's Asian (but from China) and I would have to remind her that I was the only one bilingual in Japanese. Penny enjoyed her sushi temaki roll.
The next morning we met Nathan at the Egg & I for breakfast before heading out to visit the Salt Lake City Olympic Village. It was fun to see where the 2002 Olympics were held. It was hard to believe, because it was hot while we were there. We watched people ski jumping into a pool and riding a bobsled with wheels.
After that, we drove through Park City
