A Precious Moment

On Thursday our sweet daughter showed her ultra-caring side after she had had a rather rough day. She can be really tough, as she had to learn how to stick up for herself at the orphanage. In fact, she told us that there were often fights there and that she'd usually win if someone fought her. Well, lately, she's been teasing the boys at school. Perhaps her teasing got to be too much. Anyway, a boy hit her and she socked him back. I'm glad that she can handle her own, but the teacher was not amused and Penny got a talking to and ended crying after that. Then when Dad was 15 minutes late picking her up after school, she was quite upset. But, she was surprised to come home and see me sprawled out on the couch with some kind of stomach bug. After telling me about her day and discovering that we would not get angry at her about what happened at school, she seemed happier than ever. And she said, "Mom, I help you!" She went in the kitchen and cleaned and cleaned, washing all of the dishes. At one point she came out and said, "Mom, I don't want any money. (In reference to allowance money for doing chores). I just want to help you. Understand?" Ah, how sweet! She almost made me cry.

And yesterday we had a very fun Mother-Daughter moment when she got to go out to spend her hard-earned money for the very first time. I took her to the dollar store and she acted like she was in a toy store for the very first time. And the sweet girl even used her money to buy a birthday gift for Grandma and some things for our family. It seems more and more each day she's showing that's really becoming part of this family and happy for it, too!
